Small habits that keep a solid timber table beautiful for decades.
Wipe with the grain
Use a barely damp cloth and follow the grain. Standing water is wood's only real enemy at the table, so dry any spills rather than letting them sit.
Feed an oiled finish
An oiled top loves a light re-oil once or twice a year. It takes ten minutes, deepens the colour and renews the water resistance.
Mind heat and sun
Use trivets under hot dishes and rotate table objects now and then so the surface patinas evenly under daylight.
Fix marks early
Most small scratches in an oiled finish disappear with a little oil and a soft cloth. Solid wood forgives, as long as you act before grime sets in.
