How to Clean and Protect Natural Stone Surfaces

March 28, 2026 · 6 min read

Care advice so natural stone surfaces last for a lifetime.

Daily wiping

A soft, damp cloth is all you need most days. Skip abrasive pads and harsh cleaners — they dull the surface and are never necessary.

Mind the acids

Natural stone dislikes acid. Wipe wine, citrus and vinegar promptly, and reach for a pH-neutral cleaner rather than anything sharp.

Seal once or twice a year

A penetrating sealer keeps stone resistant to stains. A quick reseal once or twice a year is enough for a dining surface in normal use.

Use coasters and trivets

Protect against ring marks and heat with simple habits. A coaster under a glass and a trivet under a hot pan prevent almost every problem before it starts.
